Concept: Indian mining company Vedanta has launched a low carbon aluminium brand called Restora for customers worldwide. It offers two product lines: Restora which provides low carbon aluminium and Restora Ultra with ultra-low carbon aluminium. Restora is produced utilizing renewable energy at the company’s aluminium smelter.
Nature of Disruption: Restora and Restora Ultra can be modified as billets, primary foundry alloy (pfa), wire rods, slabs, and ingots, depending on the end-use industries’ requirements. Restora emits less than 4 tons of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) every ton of aluminium manufactured, which is the world standard for aluminium to be classified as low carbon. Restora Ultra is created from recycled aluminium through Vedanta’s partnership with Runaya Refining, and it uses patented technology from TAHA International to treat aluminium dross in Vedanta’s operations. It supplies aluminium recovered from dross, a by-product of the aluminium smelting process, which is subsequently cast into premium-grade products under the Restora Ultra product line. Restora Ultra, according to the business, has a carbon footprint that is among the lowest in the world.
