Energy industry technology provider SLB has joined forces with oil and gas company Aker BP to co-develop an AI-driven digital platform.

The long-term partnership is aimed at accelerating innovation and efficiency across Aker BP’s exploration and production (E&P) operations.

The initiative will leverage SLB’s Delfi digital platform to enable new digital solutions in the cloud for Aker BP.

It will see Aker BP’s current application portfolio transitioned to the cloud, establishing one integrated platform for subsurface workflows.

The cloud’s high-performance computing speed is expected to allow the platform to utilise advanced AI and domain expertise from both SLB and Aker BP.

SLB said this integration will unlock new insights from previously untapped data, leading to enhanced efficiency and performance.

SLB president of digital & integration Rakesh Jaggi said: “By co-developing AI-powered digital technologies, we will transform Aker BP’s subsurface workflows, accelerating planning cycles, increasing production and reducing costs across their entire E&P life cycle.

“We have made a long-term commitment with Aker BP to continuously improve the subsurface part of their platform, driving constant efficiency optimization and more sustainable energy production.”

Aker BP SVP of exploration & reservoir development Per Øyvind Seljebotn said: “The platform we develop in partnership with SLB is a key step in realising our strategy to build the E&P company of the future and cement our position as a digital leader.

“Leveraging the cloud for data-driven subsurface workflows will increase efficiency and value creation, while helping to lower the environmental impact from our fields and discoveries.”

Earlier this month, SLB also partnered with TotalEnergies to jointly develop next-generation digital solutions.

The collaboration between SLB and the French oil and gas major aims to improve access to energy resources, increase efficiency and enhance performance.

The partnership will also address key challenges in the energy value chain including carbon capture, utilisation and sequestration.
