Airline companies have carried out remote testing and diagnostics operations for many years, and dynamic positioning (DP) trial procedures are well-established within the industry.

Annual DP trials may be conducted as a single, separate event, or as part of a rolling test programme over the course of the year. They may potentially form part of the vessel's planned maintenance programme.
