Exploring Hydrogen Production in Scotland and Site Requirements
By Scottish Development International
Scotland has everything needed to succeed as a leading producer of hydrogen and the related technology and infrastructure.
The Scottish government has set a target to achieve 5GW of installed production capacity for hydrogen by 2030, which will rise to 25GW by 2045.
To support the objective, this study was compiled as a guide to examine hydrogen production potential and evaluate the needs of industrial sites around Scotland. The study was commissioned by Scottish Enterprise, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise.
This document also provides more detail about the processes behind both blue and green hydrogen, along with an overview of opportunities in specific industries, and two case studies involving the fuel at the Port of Hamburg and Port of Rotterdam.
