Advanced Insulation Systems’ subsea marker system C.TAG/ will be working together with Trac ID Systems, a Norwegian-based specialist of radio-frequency identification (RFID) solutions for the oil and gas industry. Together, the companies will develop RFID-enabled underwater markers utilising the technology of C.TAG/, a non-toxic, anti-fouling underwater marker system and RFID technology for harsh environments.
The benefits of the combined C.TAG/ RFID technology will enable the oil and gas industry to:
- Guarantee immediate identification of a subsea asset at extreme depths or cloudy conditions
- Enable operators to record data
- Audit all routine maintenance procedures while avoiding critical and costly mistakes
- High visibility with the added advantage of individual and verified electronic identification
ROVs with an installed RFID reader system can read the transponders in the C.TAG/ marker and retrieve vital information about the equipment automatically and in real time, thus enabling the correct identification, recording and inspection history and equipment specifications, and most importantly, avoiding critical and costly mistakes. Trac ID’s asset management system (TAM) will also enable all information to be recorded and shared between different stakeholders.
The C.TAG/ RFID technology can be seen on Trac ID System’s stand (L 1307) at ONS 2010 in Stavanger, Norway, on 24-27 August.
