Opus Environmental Laboratories – the ecotoxicology, environmental monitoring and consultancy branch of Orkney-based Opus Plus – has recently secured two specialised contracts, worth in the region of £70,000, with Talisman Energy (UK).
Opus has been awarded the work to carry out environmental and air quality monitoring at the oil and gas operator’s Flotta Oil Terminal on Orkney.
The first contract will see Opus carrying out atmospheric monitoring at the facility, to ensure the environmental performance of the terminal meets statutory regulations. Having commenced in October, the project will take four months to complete.
The second contract will involve Opus monitoring gaseous emission levels at several key sites in and around the terminal to ensure statutory air quality requirements are being adhered to. It has also recently commenced and will be completed in January 2010.
Alan Dundas, business manager of Opus Environmental Laboratories at Opus Plus, says the securing of the contracts – which involve new areas of work for the firm – heralds the start of another positive period for the company, as it looks forward to a bright 2009.
He said: “We’ve enjoyed an excellent year at Opus Plus, securing a number of major contracts and making some key appointments at the company.”
“We are delighted to have now secured these two contracts with Talisman Energy. Both projects involve new areas of work and are exciting developments for the company, expanding our range of specialised services and assisting us in further cementing Opus’ position as an innovator and leader within the engineering and environment services industries.”
