Hand-protection gloves for the oil and gas industry
Developed in 2007 by Ironclad Performance Wear and ORR Safety, the KONG glove is designed specifically for the oil and gas industry to reduce and eliminate the risk of costly hand injuries, including hairline fractures, bruising blows and pinched fingers.
With the support of the Safety Committee members and their companies, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips, Chevron and Superior Energy, the KONG underwent over 80,000 hours of field testing and entered production in July 2008.
Back-of-the-hand protective glove
The KONG glove offers excellent hand protection with the following features:
- Impact-absorbing 3D thermoplastic rubber ribs
- Four heavy-duty rubber ribs, designed to absorb and dissipate impacts to the back of the hand
Knuckle protection
With foam rubber padding placed between fabric layers, the KONG glove provides added protection and flexibility. An additional band of thermoplastic rubber protects against more severe impacts.
Finger and thumb protection
One of the most unique features of the KONG glove is the 3D thermoplastic finger ribs. These impact-absorbing ribs provide extra protection, while offering flexibility because of their unique flexible joint construction.
Enhanced grip gloves
The KONG glove has impregnated PVC dots adhered to the palm of the glove, which enhances the overall grip. Additionally, the raised PVC dots extend the life of the glove by absorbing wear away from the palm fabric.
Durable Teflon-coated, synthetic leather gloves
The KONG glove has a second layer of long-wearing Teflon-coated synthetic leather material added to the palm of the glove. Reinforced cross stitching was also added to reduce the friction caused by multiple layers of fabric rubbing together.
ID tag for employee names
With an ID tag for employee names, each employee has the ability to individually mark their gloves. This helps to control usage and cost.
