Zone II air compressor

Global equipment rental specialist RentAir Offshore has launched a suite of new equipment for the offshore industry in full compliance with the very latest safety standards to ensure maximum safety in hazardous drilling areas.

RentAir Offshore has invested significantly to be the first to market with a full package of Zone II air compressors, steam generators and heat suppression booster pumps fully certified and compliant with DNV GL’s DNV 2.7-2 certification standard. These safety standards are required for temporary offshore equipment used in offshore applications including well test production equipment, compressors and diesel engines.

"As safety in the oil and gas industry continues to evolve, the DNV 2.7-2 standard for offshore equipment is being driven through the industry to enhance equipment safety standards offshore. We’re now the only company to currently offer a full package of air, steam and heat fully certified to the DNV 2.7-2 standard," commented Kieran White, chief executive officer.

"Whilst designing these new products we pursued full compliance with zero deviations from the standard to attain the highest degree of safety."

The firm is launching and demonstrating its new equipment at Offshore Europe this week, including its new safety solution, Enviro-Guard, for the protection of highly flammable substances (namely methanol) used in the offshore industry.

Enviro-Guard is a fully automated fire/leak detection suppression system designed for use with flammable liquids. The primary focus is to protect methanol storage tanks, largely used by well test service companies, as well as for other similar substances and hazards throughout the energy industry.

Kieran added: "In the current climate, we have been working hard to bring new, innovative products and solutions to our customers, working in partnership to enhance safety offshore.

"We’ve been working closely with another group company Conserve – rental provider of offshore cargo carrying units, containers, baskets, chemical transport tanks – to deliver this solution, utilising their equipment to develop and build the Enviro-Guard product. This has brought additional cost efficiencies and increased our speed to market with the final product."

The overall investment has also included the introduction of heat suppression packages, another new product in the firm’s rental portfolio. These systems are designed to protect offshore installations, including personnel from the extreme temperatures generated during flaring periods of a well test.

The product is focused on improving safety offshore with the use of the RD44® flare boom system that includes fully certified nozzles which utilise Free Flow Nozzle Technology. This technology maintains water profiles, even when rig debris is found within existing pipework systems, reducing the risk of downtime during flaring operations due to blocked nozzles.

"This is a great opportunity for our business to further enhance its capability ensuring it is well placed to support the global well test market. We are now able to bring an enhanced offering for air, steam, and heat for well test companies, internationally," said Kieran White.

"There are a number of key safety driven design elements to these products which reduce risk and help keep offshore personnel safe."
