Offshore maintenance and engineering asset management training courses

The training division of ESS has developed an asset management master-class specifically designed for maintenance and engineering personnel in the oil and gas industry, designed to teach new skills and maintenance best-practice ways of thinking.

Our maintenance and engineering courses are designed to be interactive with group discussions and case studies. As delegates are drawn together from a range of industries, our courses offer a unique opportunity to network and share experiences.

Our training courses, which are run as both public and on-site customised courses, include but are not limited to the following:

  • Effective shutdown planning / turnaround management
  • Condition-based maintenance (CBM)
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Excellence in spare parts inventory management
  • Root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Reliability improvement
  • Criticality in asset management
  • Leadership skills / managing your technical team
  • Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Preventive maintenance (PM)
  • Refrigeration systems training for technicians and crafts
  • Total productive maintenance (TPM)
  • Ammonia awareness

Effective shutdown planning / turnaround management

It is a widely known fact that effective turnaround management pays huge dividends in the offshore industry in delivering superior plant performance and reliability while controlling maintenance / overhaul costs.

The ESS course is designed around a model of excellence in turnarounds developed over a number of years and is used to successfully train managers, engineers and supervisors involved in the maintenance of large plants around the world.

The course consists of nine modules that together cover all aspects of turnaround management from the high-level business considerations necessary to set the event within an effective framework to the very detailed aspects of efficient planning and execution of the event.

Failure modes effects and criticality analysis training courses

Failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) is a technique that allows the most appropriate maintenance tasks to be selected for equipment, and has been successfully applied to a wide range of industries, including oil and gas.

FMECA is best carried out by the people who know their plant and equipment the best – the operators and technicians. This course gives a basic understanding of the technique and how it should be applied and put to use cost effectively.

Root-cause analysis training courses

“‘Small’ repeat failures cause around 50% of plant downtime.” ESS’s practical, two-day root-cause analysis (RCA) seminar will show you how to tackle your chronic failures more effectively, as well as highlighting the tools needed to address any one-off or acute failures.

RCA training focuses on avoiding costs and minimising losses by getting to the root causes of problems and failures, and solving them once and for all with permanent solutions. Losses can be avoided by adopting a structured problem-solving approach.

Group exercises and real-life case study examples will be used to bring this important subject to life and emphasise important points.
