About SEAS

Submersible Equipment and Services (SEAS) is a privately owned Australian company that offers top-quality vibrocoring and environmental surveying systems for various customers since 1983. The company responds to the clients’ requirements and needs and takes pride in providing tailored products and services that best answers what is needed.

SEAS is dedicated to resolving sediment sampling situations and challenges that are not easily addressed by other equipment. Our expert team can discuss these challenges with customers, and they can assist you by efficiently yielding superior results.

SEAS is committed to offering solutions to clients that meet and surpass expectations, supplying high-quality sediment sampling equipment to clients which they will be able to reliably use for many years. We manufacture and supply operators and equipment for a variety of sediment sampling techniques, including Vibrocores (3 – 9m), Piston Cores (3 – 15m), Box cores (50cm x 50cm x 50cm), Grab samplers (various sizes) and ROV push core systems.

Vibrocore samples from unconsolidated and semi-consolidated sediments

Vibrocoring is a way of retrieving continuous, undisturbed core samples from unconsolidated and semi-consolidated sediments in a fast way. Vibrocorers are used in aquatic environments with water depths up to 200m.

The core barrel, which can be various diameters, is vibrated into the sediment while attached to the vibrocorer head. When sediment comes in direct contact with the core barrel, a liquefied outside layer is formed by the vibration mechanics. This allows the core barrel to insert itself into the sediment strata.

SEAS vibrocorers can operate from onshore to 2,000m below sea level. SEAS can collect core samples from 76mm to 100mm in diameter to suit client requirements, with core samples from 3m to 9m in length. Sampling uses stainless steel barrels and polycarbonate, PVC or layflat plastic liners to suit the specific project parameters.

SEAS understands that clients have a variety of requirements and needs and aims to work with them for specifically tailored products and services. Through the company’s developed launch and recovery system (LARS), which boosts offshore operational safety and minimises weather downtime.

The LARS system can be easily transported and secured onto vessels of opportunity. The LARS is rapidly becoming a popular product for longer projects too. Both the VC-450 and VC-700 systems (Vibrocorer head, power cable and guide tower) and the LARS are suitable for air freight to destinations globally.

Box Core and Grab Sampling

Many surveys require shallow sediment samples for both geotechnical and environmental aspects of surveys. SEAS BC-500 box core has been designed to collect quality bulk sediment samples. The SEAS Grab samplers are used for sediment type verification, environmental surveys and geotechnical surveys in situations where only relatively small sample volumes are required.

Piston Core systems

SEAS supplies piston core systems which can collect core samples 3 to 24m in length. The piston core system used liners the same dimensions as employed for the vibrocore system so there is no need for doubling up on consumables when both systems are used for the same project.

Offshore and inshore sampling

The company’s products can be used offshore for a range of tasks, such as:

  • Site surveys
  • Pre-dredge surveys
  • Anchor site survey
  • Pipeline feasibility studies
  • Power Cable route surveys
  • Environmental sampling
  • Mineral exploration
  • Marine research
  • Contaminated site surveys
