TAQA Bratani’s Tern Alpha oil platform in the British sector of the North Sea has been completely upgraded with Tideland Signal’s Syncrolan LED light and fog stations.
The platform has been marked by Tideland equipment since its inauguration in 1987. The operators have now decided to upgrade the platform by installing a completely decentralised system in which each light/fog station is equipped with its own local power supply and battery bank, all certified for Zone 1.
The light stations consist of an an MLED-180HI EX LED main light with a range of 15 nautical miles and an MLED-150 EX LED secondary light with a range of 10 nautical miles plus an MLED-150Ex red subsidiary light. Fog warning is supplied by AB68EX main and secondary fog signals. A central monitoring panel provides monitoring and alarm indications and also photocell and fog signal override switches. An important advantage of the decentralised configuration is the increased integrity of the system and space is saved in the central areas.
