Tideland Signal has supplied a comprehensive package of Syncrolan light stations and fog signals for Teekay Corporation’s two new FPSOs – Falcon Spirit (formally Rita) and Navion Europa.
Rita is marked by two main Syncrolan light stations and two Syncrolan fog signals. Navion Europa has two Syncrolan light stations mounted at the stern and amidships and a third Syncrolan light station is installed in the bow. All equipment is ATEX certified for use in Zone 1 (Cat 2) hazardous areas.
Tideland’s Syncrolan light stations combine an ML-300-SL-400-EX main light and FLMC-4 multicode flasher with an ML-300 EX secondary light equipped with a DuoFlash EX multi code flasher, all mounted on a stainless-steel pedestal. LED flashers are also available.
The fog signal stations on Falcon Spirit each comprise an AB-68 fog signal and an ECU control unit. There is a backup battery and a central control and alarm panel indicating the status of all the navigational warning systems on board. Navion Europa has separate back-up batteries for the bow and stern/midships warning systems.
The new FPSOs are owned by Teekay Petrojarl, the largest operator of FPSOs in the North Sea. In 2005 the company acquired the Korean-built shuttle tanker Rita Knutsen
(1986) with the intention of converting it into an FPSO. Navion Europa is also a converted shuttle tanker built at the Astilleros yard in 1995.
Teekay Corporation transports more than 10% of the world’s seaborne oil and has a fleet of more than 165 vessels. Petrojarl was demerged from Petroleum Geo-Services in 2006 and Teekay acquired full ownership in 2008 when the company became Teekay Petrojarl.
