Protea: Investing for the future

Protea has a well-deserved reputation for delivering high-quality offshore handling equipment, including cranes, winches and launch and recovery systems to global customers working in the onshore and offshore energy industries.

Its success in the turnkey engineering, production and delivery of world-class products requires the right combination of people, processes and facilities. Despite the challenges currently facing the oil and gas sector, Protea continues to invest in all three.

"For the industry to thrive in the new oil price environment, our customers are looking for efficiency savings, to do more for less. Since we were established in 2001, we have offered high quality products at an affordable price. By continuing to invest in our people, processes and facilities we can further strengthen our offer," said Tomasz Paszkiewicz, Protea’s managing director.

As part of the above investment programme, Protea has recently recruited a new sales engineer, Maciej Schefke. Maciej has more than 20 years’ experience of the global sales and marketing of technical products and by working closely with potential customers and the Protea team will offer equipment solutions that match their precise needs.

In parallel, the company has made a significant investment in introducing lean manufacturing processes at its state-of-the-art production facility in Kluczbork, southern Poland. These have further streamlined production activities resulting in cost and time savings that will benefit its customers.

"I have seen the advantages that these processes have given in other sectors such as the automotive industry. Our location has always given Protea a cost and quality advantage but with the introduction of these process, we can further strengthen this advantage." commented Tomasz.

Last but not least, the company has continued to invest in its modern production facility with a significant investment in a new water cutting machine. The machine can cut steel plates up to 200mm, including high-grade S960 steel and other materials such as stainless-steel and rubber.
