Automasjon & Data (A+D) was established in 1991 as a software house and has now become one of the world’s leading companies for MetOcean or meteorological and oceanographic data systems.

Our main products are helideck monitoring systems and environmental monitoring systems for marine and offshore applications. Such systems are basically a very advanced weather station measuring wind, temperatures, barometric pressure, sea currents, waves, etc., but can also include a number of additional sensors and tailor-made functions that are essential for offshore users.

Helideck monitoring systems

A+D has been involved in the development of helideck monitoring systems since they were first introduced and is one of the leading manufacturers of HMS systems. A+D has several hundred systems in operation worldwide, many of which have been operating for decades in harsh offshore conditions, with minimum downtime. These systems utilise the well proven and user-friendly DADAS real-time data acquisition software.

A+D helideck monitoring systems can be tailored to suit local conditions and can easily be expanded to comply with future demands, rules and regulations. A+D can also provide installation support, annual service, calibration services and training of personnel as required.

A+D has been providing environmental monitoring (EMS) systems using the well-proven DADAS software for more than 18 years.
A+D's helideck monitoring systems comply with all known rules and regulations worldwide, including the CAA CAP 437 and the Norwegian standard for HMS systems.
A+D provided a helideck monitoring system for the Borgland Dolphin rig.
A+D's well-qualified team of offshore service engineers can undertake service work on all makes and models of MetOcean systems, EMP / EMS systems, HMS systems, meteorological and oceanographic sensors.

Current new HMS systems will comply with all known rules and regulations worldwide, including the UK CAA CAP 437, NORMAM 27 and the Norwegian Standard for HMS-systems.

Offshore meteorological and oceanographic data systems

Offshore MetOcean systems are exposed to the most extreme weather conditions. Not only are they expected to function in these conditions, but they are also expected to measure accurately, providing correct data in order to document these conditions.

All offshore platforms and vessels need environmental data for daily operational use and as an important tool for safety purposes. In recent years these systems have also been tailor-made to measure the movements and conditions of the helideck, and are used as a tool for improving the safety of helicopter traffic.

A+D has had its software package DADAS in use in a large number of MetOcean data systems all over the world since 1992. The DADAS software is basically a general data acquisition package incorporating a very flexible display module, a comprehensive reporting module, alarm modules and the possibility to control smaller processes directly.

The company has a lot of valuable experience from many different applications and a large number of special functions have been integrated into the software in order to improve the user interface. Special emphasis has been put on making the data displays easily understandable for non-technical users.

Environmental monitoring systems

Environmental monitoring systems, often known as EMS / EMP systems, weather stations or MetOcean systems, are a very important tool for many users onshore and offshore.

EMS systems using the well-proven DADAS software from A+D have been in use for more than 18 years and have an excellent track record.

Profiling current sensor systems for deep waters

Drilling in deeper waters will often bring challenges related to fluctuating and unpredictable currents. These may have a critical influence on both rig location and installation of expensive equipment.

A system equipped with profiling current sensors (ADCPs) can give vital information about these parameters. DADAS software has simple and user-friendly displays that will give the user a quick and useful understanding of the situation.

Meteorological and oceanographic sensors

A+D has a vast experience in selecting, operating and maintaining meteorological and oceanographic sensors for the tough operational conditions offshore. Only sensors with an excellent track record will be recommended for use in such critical applications. A+D can supply everything from single sensors to complete turnkey systems.

Offshore service work and calibration services

A+D has a well-qualified team of offshore service engineers, including experienced support engineers onshore, who can undertake service work on all makes and models of MetOcean systems, EMP / EMS systems, HMS systems, meteorological and oceanographic sensors, etc. Our workshop is equipped for servicing and calibrating most kinds of sensors and instrumentation and has a fast-track supply line for spare parts.

MetOcean system upgrades

A+D can perform an unconditional survey of older MetOcean systems – regardless of the supplier – to evaluate the condition of the system and the need for upgrades. A thorough report is issued after the survey that documents the status of existing equipment, proposes upgrades if necessary and shows how such upgrades can result in less service and maintenance.

Projects

  • Jotun Oil and Gas Field Project

The Jotun field is located on the Utsira High, between the Balder and Heimdal fields, approximately 200km west of Stavanger, Norway.

  • Balder Oil and Gas Field Project, Norway

Balder is located in blocks 25 / 10 and 25 / 11, 165km west of Haugesund, in a water depth of 125m. The field was discovered in 1967, but it was only during the appraisal drilling in 1974 that the major part of the field was discovered.
