IR3 flame detector

High-value, high-risk industries often have large facilities, often located in remote areas where conditions can reach extremes, from African deserts to Alaskan waters.

These environments provide difficult conditions within which optical flame need to operate, directly linking to regular triggering of false alarms, resulting in a loss of confidence in the detection systems and the cost of unnecessary initiation of emergency procedures.

To meet the safety requirements of these facilities, IR3 Optical Flame Detectors can be installed to provide, even under these harsh conditions, fast and reliable flame detection. IR3 detectors can detect at vast distances and have excellent false alarm immunity. This technology, which is the best available today, was patented by Spectrex in the 1990s and was a major breakthrough in modern optical flame detection. It allows fewer detectors to be employed for a specific area, providing efficient protection.

The SharpEye 40/40I IR3 Flame Detector provides superior detection of hydrocarbon-based flames at large distances, suiting the vast areas within such facilities. With Spectrex patented IR3 detection technology, our detectors provide accurate results with the greatest reliability and have a vast range of approvals. The 40/40I IR3 Flame Detector is able to detect flames at up to 215ft (65m) in less than 5s and is the most durable and weather-resistant flame detector currently on the market. The detector holds ATEX, IECEx and FM hazardous ex approvals, as well as SIL2 reliability approval and DNV marine approval and performance approvals from Europe and FM.

Spectrex is a technology leader in optical flame and open path gas detection (OPGD). Our patented optical UV/IR and IR3 Flame Detector designs, and pioneering patented Xenon Flash designs in OPGD detectors are now the standard for oil and gas projects. A wide range of flame detectors are available, from ultra-fast (msec) detection time to high-sensitivity hydrocarbon and hydrogen flame detection, alongside the equally large OPGD range that can detect hazardous gases, from flammable hydrocarbons to toxic ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. All Spectrex products can operate in the toughest conditions, from African deserts to Alaskan waters and are fully approved to meet relevant third-party Ex hazardous area, performance and reliability standards to the wide range of application challenges, worldwide.
