For the pipelay of three different Pemex lines (4, 7 and 9) in the Bay of Campeche, Mexico, SPT Offshore successfully installed and removed a twin suction pile three times at different locations.
Cal Dive International contracted SPT Offshore for the offshore installation work. During the operation, we strengthened our relationship. This was achieved by maintaining a pleasant and clear communication while understanding the technical challenges and our mutual needs, both onshore and offshore.
The offshore campaign was executed during five different phases between early September 2013 and the end of January 2014. Due to the soft soils in the region and the high-tech new suction pump system that SPT introduced in the mid-2013, effective installation times never exceeded 45min. For all three locations installation, tolerances on positioning (location, inclination, orientation) were well within the specifications. This suction installation project was executed from the DSV Texas off the coast from Ciudad del Carmen.
The twin-pile has a main padeye with a holding capacity of more than 200 million tonnes and has dry weight of 45 million tonnes. It is perfectly suited as a pipelay start-up pile for high-holding capacities, especially in the soft soils of the Gulf of Mexico. SPT Offshore will store the pile in Mexico, so that it will be ready for future work in the Gulf.
