Muehlhan Surface Protection is an international specialist in marine surface protection – in particular for protecting against corrosion of ships' steel surfaces. With some 2,400 employees worldwide, our headquarters is in Hamburg. Our four divisions, ship newbuilding, ship repair, oil and gas offshore and industry services, enable us to serve the market on a broad basis.
What distinguishes us from the competition is the quality of our performance, 125 years of experience and a superior level of technical know-how. Our specialized know-how on the interface between shipowners, coating manufacturers and shipyards regularly earns us a competitive edge that translates into greater benefits for our customers.
Surface and fire protection for offshore facilities
The oil and gas offshore division provides surface protection, in both newbuilding and repair work, for offshore drilling rigs and production platforms. Our offshore division offers:
- Surface protection
- Passive fire protection
- Access technology
- Project evaluation, planning, management and supervision
In the Gulf of Mexico and in the North Sea we provide services while the work on these offshore drilling rigs and production platforms continue. At our Asian locations, we are involved in the new building process of platforms.
Steel structures surface protection
Our surface protection also extends to steel structures in the sea. These are, in particular, drilling rigs and oil and gas platforms on which we carry out newbuilding, repair and upgrade projects. Work for drilling rigs is undertaken at specialized shipyards on land, where our service concepts are largely in keeping with those for ship newbuilding.
In the oil and gas division Muehlhan is known as a competent partner. In this work environment we face the highest demands for safety and quality. Our high training standards combined with our µ-jet-technology guarantee efficiency and that our customers’ work processes are undisturbed.
µ-jet-technology for blasting
µ-jet is the patented combination of two blasting processes: traditional dry abrasive blasting (AB) and high or ultra-high pressure hydrojetting (UHP). Compared to either process alone, it is faster, more flexible and delivers better quality. It is also far superior in regards to safety and the environment. The technology:
- Is up to ten times faster
- Enables coating to adhere better
- Lengthens coating’s life span by removing chloride better
- Saves up to 80% of water and power
- Is less of a burden on the nozzle and reduces accident risk
- Is equipped with µ-switch, the best dead-man’s switch on the market
- Enables otherwise inaccessible areas to be blasted
- Can be used underwater
- Saves on spare parts and tools and minimizes interruptions
