Gas Compressors Ltd (GCL) is a packaging company specialising in manufacturing custom-built gas compressor and booster packages for use in the power generation, landfill, water and petrochemical industries. Our engineers have, between them, many years’ experience designing, manufacturing and installing gas compressor systems. You can use that experience to optimise machine selection, and thereby gain maximum economic advantage.
All compressor technologies available to complete turnkey packages
With the many and varied applications and duties that gas compressors are used for, you need helpful, friendly and, above all, independent advice. We can supply and install globally anything from a bare shaft machine to complete turnkey packages.
All fabrication takes place in our own workshop, by our own coded welders. Our lifting equipment can accommodate skids of up to 25t.
When selecting technology for a particular application, we will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the various generic types of machine available in order to offer you the best combination of reliability and economic benefits. As we are not tied to specific suppliers, you can be sure that the optimum solution will be designed and installed at your plant.
Centrifugal fans
Centrifugal fans are offered for pressure rises of up to 150mbar. They are often used in landfill gas gathering and boosting to engines.
Blowers
Rotary lobe blowers are efficient gas blowers capable of pressure rises of 1bar and flows to 10,000m³/hr. They have many industrial gas movement uses.
Centrifugal blowers are not as efficient as rotary lobe blowers, but offer the advantages of quiet operation and pulsation free discharge. They are capable of pessures to 1barg and flow rates to 50,000m³/hr. Mostly used for the aeration of effluent, they can also be used for fuel gas boosting to engines and mine gas extraction.
Compressors
GE Ro-Flo oil lubricated rotary vane compressors are selected for pressures up to 5barg and flows to 3,500m³/hr per unit. Other manufacturers are selected in special circumstances. Capable of running with dirty acid gas and very high levels of H2S, they are suitable for fuel gas boosting to large gas engines and digester gas mixing systems.
Oil flooded screw compressors are utilised for higher pressures – up to 45barg in cast steel versions. We prefer to offer Vilter VSG single screw compressors: they offer advantages over twin screw compressors, such as superior efficiency, reduced maintenance requirement and actual flows at suction up to 5,000m³/hr. Twin screws can be offered if the customer prefers. Applications include fuel gas boosting to gas turbines, refinery service and industrial refrigeration.
Reciprocating compressors can be used for discharge pressures of up to typically 400barg. For large flow rates we tend to offer GE Gemini, and for smaller flow rates Rix, Corken, etc. They are used for wellhead gas gathering, gas transmission and fuel gas boosting.
Diaphragm compressors are also used for very high pressures. The process gas does not come into contact with any lubricant, so purity is assured. They are often used in medical and ultra high purity applications. Flow rates can be very low – down to about 2m³/hr.
Gas processing and handling
We also build gas cleaning systems using refrigeration, adsorption and filtration. We have partners who can offer biogas separation technologies.
Almost all gases are handled by GCL: fuel gases, industrial gases, refrigerants and refinery gases.
Pipework fabrication
We fabricate pipework up to 36in at our workshop.
Applications
All pressures and flow rates can be accommodated with regards to the following:
- Fuel gas boosting to boilers, gas engines, dual fuel engines and gas turbines
- Landfill gas extraction and boosting
- Digester gas mixing including the whole mixing system if required
- Mine gas extraction to deep vacuums if necessary
- Synthesis gas utilisation
- General refinery service
- Industrial refrigeration
- Aeration of effluents
- Process vacuum
- Gas treatment such as moisture and particulate removal
