Sword CTSpace, a global provider of document management and collaboration workflow applications for the construction and engineering industries, announced today that the latest release of FusionEnterprise will be able to combine engineering content from separate EMC Documentum® and Microsoft SharePoint® 2010 systems.

FusionEnterprise is a specialist content application for capital projects and operations that works hand-in-hand with a company’s chosen ECM platform. It adds to the basic ECM repository features to support more efficient and compliant engineering projects or operations, such as comprehensive CAD support, transmittals management, and audit trails.

This latest version of FusionEnterprise extends the flexibility of organizations in selecting and deploying ECM systems and supplementary applications even further. Organizations can now deploy several ECM systems within individual or multiple sets of engineering projects and operations. They no longer have to limit their engineering operations to a single ECM system for the sake of compatibility, or resort to costly
software development or data migration if they already have disparate ECM systems in place in different parts of the enterprise.

Sword CTSpace’s vice president of product management, Tim Fleet, explains: “Some of our larger customers wanted to be able to deploy a common engineering content application even though they have multiple ECM systems in different parts of their organization – FusionEnterprise is now able to provide that flexibility and give these customers great flexibility for the future.”

The ability to federate engineering content between multiple ECM systems will give organizations greater flexibility. For example, an organization may prefer using SharePoint for capital projects but Documentum for corporate records management. With the new FusionEnterprise, organizations can maximize the value of their ECM systems and improve their projects and operations by leveraging the strengths of each individual ECM system, without concern for compatibility.

Mark Cappell, Sword CTSpace’s CEO, explains: “For a long time, Sword CTSpace has been unique among engineering content management solutions providers in offering both online software as a service (SaaS) solutions and on-premises, enterprise solutions. Now, we have set ourselves even further apart by being the first to offer a common engineering content application with the ability to federate engineering content from multiple ECM systems. With the latest version of FusionEnterprise, organizations with the complex assets or multiple projects that would require multiple ECM systems now have almost unlimited options in managing their engineering content.”

Sword CTSpace, backed by the Sword Group and its more than $270m in revenue, boasts
partnerships with all of the major ECM providers and a strong network of business partners throughout the world. On top of Microsoft SharePoint and EMC Documentum, Sword CTSpace’s IBM-connected offering is FusionEnterprise for IBM FileNet P8, an extension to IBM’s content management system that allows FileNet P8 to be used effectively and compliantly on engineering projects.
