Ships Electronic Services, or as is it more commonly known SES, has forged an enviable reputation during the last 35 years, for professional service and the ability to supply, install and maintain the world’s most advanced marine electronics.

Working within the entire spectrum of marine-related applications, such as commercial workboats, shipping, naval, oil and gas, SES engineers have experience in advanced maritime technology, ranging from satellite and other on-board communications to bridge controls, navigation and entertainment systems.

Recognised by industry leaders

The high standards of service offered by SES has been recognised my many of the industry’s leading manufacturers, with global leader Raytheon Anschutz having recently announced the appointment of SES as its sole distributor and service provider in the UK.

This followed the company’s appointment as a warranty service provider for another world leader, this time in mobile satellite communications, Iridium.

As SES has expanded its capabilities and services, it has ensured its quality and control systems have developed to provide its customers with the level of service expected for professional operations and is one of the few marine electronics service providers accredited with ISO 9001.

Expansion into oil and gas and offshore services

With the company’s expansion into the oil and gas industry, SES became registered with first point assessment (FPAL). FPAL works to identify, qualify, evaluate and monitor suppliers on behalf of its purchasing members. To further strengthen its commitment to the industry, SES engineers who work on offshore facilities now qualify for RGIT basic offshore induction and safety training.

This means SES can offer offshore installation, project work, service and maintenance and full vessel or platform site surveys for all marine electronics on these facilities.

Collaboration with Clear-Com

Robust and reliable communications in harsh weather conditions are of prime importance to the operation and safety of a vessel or rig and crew. To that end SES has become an expert in the supply and installation of intercom systems, working with Clear-Com, a global leader in critical voice communication.

The unique design of Clear-Com’s wireless intercom systems help them operate interference-free, which is essential for ensuring safety on-board large vessels. Being wireless devices, crew members are free to roam around the vessel without audio fade or losing communication altogether.

SES is now the sole marine distributor and service centre for the UK, Ireland and offshore for Clear-Com products.

UK centres and network

To provide fast and efficient service to the main ports of the UK and the offshore oil and gas industry, SES has built a network of eight centres around the coast. Aberdeen and Grangemouth specialise in service to oil and gas installations, while other locations include Liverpool, Grimsby and the company headquarters in Rochester.

The Poole service centre handles electronics and communications supply to both the commercial shipping and leisure boating markets, with other facilities in Plymouth and Cornwall. Factory-trained engineers are able to install, service and supply to shipyards and ports around the UK and, where needed, for customers operating vessels further afield.

A 24-hour, seven day a week service and support line is operated by professional engineers capable of talking through problems and solutions whenever a problem occurs, even while the crew is at sea.

SES, trusted by top manufacturers

It is not only the top manufacturers that have recognised SES as a trustworthy partner in marine electronics, many of the UK’s major shipping companies and operators choose to work with SES as a preference. The recently launched Type 45 Daring Class destroyers saw SES installations of intercom and other equipment, while BP Shipping awarded SES the contract to fit satellite communications to 25 of its vessels.

SES also installed navigation and communications for the first hybrid ferries built by Ferguson Shipyards. The company is currently installing its first Praxis Alarm and Monitoring system on an Aberdeen-based OSV.

In the leisure market Sunseeker is a long standing customer of SES for the supply, installation and maintenance of satellite communications and entertainment systems.

The outstanding reputation of SES as a reliable and experienced and professional marine electronics supplier has been earned through attention to detail and placing the customer at the top of the lists of priorities. The company continues to develop its expertise in the technical market of maritime electronics as demand for its services increases.
