Kockum Sonics delivers cargo and ballast automation system SHIPMASTER to FPSO “Knock Adoon” owned by Fred Olsen.
When Fred Olsen Marine Services (FOMS) decided to convert former crude oil carrier Knock Adoon into a FPSO, the entire onboard system was scrutinized. FOMS decided that the old cargo and ballast automation system was not up to scratch. Kockum Sonics was contacted in order to provide a retrofit of the existing cargo and ballast automation system.
Kockum Sonics visited the vessel and conducted a survey of the onboard systems. FOMS decided to keep most of the old instruments but decided to retrofit the old float type level gauges in the cargo and slop tanks with tank radar and replaced the old loading computer with Kockum Sonics state of the art LOADMASTER X5. In addition, the customer decided to incorporate the booster pumps into the system.
Kockum Sonics quoted a complete system to the customer including tank radar and gave the customer full freedom to select the maker of the cargo tank radar gauging system. The new cargo and ballast automation system completely replaced the old Nakakita cargo and ballast control panel. The system collects and presents data on screen and gives the operator full control of the steam driven cargo and booster pumps as well as the electrical ballast pumps. The valves for cargo and ballast handling are remotely controlled and displayed on the shipmaster system. The system is redundant with two operator stations set up in master / slave operation.
