Established in 1978, Cleveland Cable has grown to be one of Europe’s leading distributors of power cables. Its 450 staff across eight UK branches supply oil and gas infrastructure cables sourced through a network of trusted suppliers with the best possible lead times, deliveries and economies of scale. Staff work to high standards and are Quality Management ISO 9001 and Environmental 14001 approved.
Cleveland Cable’s head office and principal stockroom is located in Middlesbrough, UK. The site covers an area of 12 acres and includes over 160,000ft² of warehousing. The company’s global distribution network has the ability to ship power cables by air or sea to any location in the world.
Marine and offshore cables
Non-armoured 657TQ marine and offshore cables feature tinned annealed stranded copper conductors with an EPR insulation and black LSF SW4 outer sheath. They range in size from 1.5mm to 630mm and are manufactured to BS6883. The cables are suitable for decked areas exposed to the elements and other offshore installations.
The company’s 658TQ cables feature LSZH bedding-galvanised steel wire braided armour and are available in sizes from 1.5mm to 300mm. They are perfect for installations on drilling rigs and platforms in areas where there is no risk of mechanical damage.
EPR cables
Overall and individually screened ethylene propylene rubber (EPR) marine and offshore cables are manufactured to BS6883 and available in sizes from 0.75mm to 1.5mm and 0.75mm to 2.5mm respectively. They are constructed from tinned circular copper conductors with GP4 insulation. Flame-retardant halogen-free bedding and galvanised steel wire braid armour are all contained within a SW4 outer sheath.
EPR marine cables are primarily designed for fixed wiring installations in ships and other offshore units. Installations include:
- Safety and emergency lighting
- Shut down control systems
- Gas detectors
- Alarm systems
- Fire pump systems
Individual screening results in less electrical interference and a more high-integrity cable than overall or collective-screened cables.
Fire-resistant cables
Manufactured to BS7917/6883, fire-resistant marine and offshore cables are individually screened to UK00A and are available in sizes from 0.75mm to 2.5mm. Mica glass tape (MGT) cables are additionally available in sizes from 1.5mm to 16mm. Fire resistance reduces risk where there is sensitive electrical equipment.
BFOU cables
BFOU power cables are certified to the highest standards for smoke emissions and flame retardancy, and are widely used within the oil and gas industry for both land and offshore applications. The cables are also mud resistant and have excellent screening properties that reduce electromagnetic interference.
RFOU cables
RFOU cables have an outer sheath that can withstand exposure to mud and drilling and cleaning fluids. They are halogen free, ideal for fixed installations in power, control and lighting circuits in both explosive Ex atmospheres and safe areas.
