FEC Heliports Worldwide is a division of Federal Equipment Company (FEC).  FEC was founded in 1982 and began as a small replacement parts supplier for material handling equipment in the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard and in shipyards throughout the world. The company quickly grew into a complete engineering and manufacturing company and was recently awarded a $55 million contract by Northrop Grumman to build and install new FEC designed weapons elevators for the next-generation aircraft carriers for the US Navy.  It was our extensive military experience that paved the way for us to expand into the commercial market in 1996 and open the doors for FEC Heliports.

HELIPORT DESIGN, MANUFACTURE AND INSTALLATION

Over the past ten years, FEC Heliports has designed, manufactured and installed more rooftop and aluminium helipads than anyone else in the world. Unlike most of our competitors, FEC Heliports has an extensive in-house staff comprising experienced structural engineers, heliport designers and consultants as well as a complete team of fabricators and installers. We are staffed to handle multiple heliport projects and still give your project the first-class attention it deserves.

ROOFTOP HELIPORTS

FEC Heliports’ engineering department has spent many years perfecting its HELISLAT rooftop design. With over 190 rooftop installations in the US and abroad, FEC Heliports’ HELISLAT design has been consistently proven with installations in almost every climate and under every condition without failure.

ALUMINUM HELIPORTS

Aluminium has been termed "the magic metal" or "the wonder metal". The reasons for these accolades lie in the very diverse range of physical, chemical and mechanical properties enjoyed by the metal and its alloys in both cast or wrought forms. Key properties of aluminium include:

The non-magnetic and non-combustible properties of aluminium heliports are invaluable for offshore structures.
We are able to provide a complete 'one stop shop' service, supplying everything that is necessary.
  • Low density: aluminium is only one-third the weight of steel and one-eighth the weight of concrete
  • Highly resistant to most forms of corrosion: the metal’s natural coating of aluminium oxide provides a highly effective barrier to the ravages of air, temperature, moisture and chemical attack
  • A superb conductor of electricity: this property has ensured the replacement of copper by aluminium in many electrical applications
  • Non-magnetic and non-combustible: properties invaluable in advanced industries such offshore structures
  • Strong and ductile: these properties have resulted in extensive use of aluminium in construction application

Other valuable properties include high reflectivity, heat barrier properties and heat conduction. The metal is malleable and easily worked by the common manufacturing and shaping processes.

ALUMINIUM ALLOY HELIPORTS

All the above properties can be found in an impressive array of commercially available alloys. The composition and logic of those alloys are regulated by an internationally agreed classifications system.

Each alloy is described by a four digit number, with a further letter and number indicating the temper, or condition of the alloy: for example, 6005-T5 is a strength grade alloy based on the aluminium-magnesium-silicon family. 6005-T5 is the alloy used to extrude the FEC Heliports Helislat, Helislat II and Helomat systems. Its characteristics include:

  • Very good corrosion resistance
  • Good weldability
  • Strength
  • Good extrudability

These properties make 6005-T5 ideal for structural and precision engineering.

ADVANTAGES OF FEC ALUMINIUM HELIPORTS

  • Environmental responsibility – 95% recyclable
  • Maintenance free
  • Non-corrosive aluminium
  • Permanently portable
  • Lightweight and strong
  • 12PSF / 58kg/m²
  • Add or check snow melt system
  • Cost effective
  • Long-term savings in maintenance and relocation

ONE STOP SHOP SERVICE

FEC Heliports has its own 21,000m² production facility, which allows us to design, build and quality control all our heliport equipment before it arrives at your facility. This includes not only the deck and safety netting, but also the lighting, fire suppression and snow-melting components. We often also design and build structural support steelwork for our decks and walkways, and these facilities allow us to pre-assemble your helipad to ensure accurate installation at the jobsite.

We are able to provide a complete ‘start to finish’ and ‘one stop shop’ service, supplying everything that is necessary, including fire suppression, lighting, wind indicators, slope indicators and all installation or supervisory labour where needed.

Press Releases

  • FEC Heliports Worldwide Offers Aluminum Extrusion

The HELISLAT II is a pre-engineered aluminum design that can be extruded up to 60ft in length. This tongue and groove design, when properly supported, is capable of handling in excess of 35,000lbs of gross weight. The HELISLAT II can be designed to meet any helipad size requirements. I
