Castle Pumps is an independent pump distributor, supplying pumps, pump servicing and customised pump solutions for the marine and offshore market. Established in 1982, the company has gained experience in selling pumps for all types of application and has therefore become a specialist in the fluid-handling industry.
Castle Pumps delivers quality and reliable pumps for all processes and applications. Its customer base includes marine resellers, ship builders, ship yards and ship management companies. Castle Pumps’ solutions are based on the individual requirements of each and every customer, many of whom are in the marine and offshore sector.
Sourcing an industrial pump often requires expert knowledge but with technical sales engineers that have years of experience and the vast range of pump types, material options, performance specifications and brands available, Castle Pumps will be able to provide a solution; "whatever the process, we have the pump."
Offshore and marine pump types
Castle Pumps supplies many types of pumps to the marine and offshore market. These pumps include, but are no means limited to, centrifugal pumps, side channel pumps, progressive cavity pumps, screw pumps and metering and dosing pumps.
Centrifugal pumps are used for fluid transfer, including low-viscosity fluids, such as fuel, oils and petrochemicals. These pumps can be used for fluids with both high and low-level flow rates, as well as high and low pressures, and are the most common pump for this type of transmission. In the marine and offshore industry, they can be regularly used for water circulation, cooling and fresh-water transfer. Centrifugal pumps are also available as a self-priming pump, which doesn’t have to be manually primed before use.
Side channel pumps are popular in low-flow/high-pressure applications with clean fluids, but are also capable of handling a mixture of liquid and gas, as well as liquids that foam or vaporise easily. These types of fluids include in-boiler feed applications and seawater, fuel and solvent transfer for temperatures of -60°C up to 220°C.
Progressive cavity pumps are able to handle viscous fluids, slurries, mixtures of gas and liquid, liquids containing large particles and sheer sensitive fluids, of temperatures up to 180°C. These pumps are a type of positive displacement pump and are often used for tough applications when other types of pumps are likely to fail.
Screw pumps are a part of the positive displacement pump family and are often used for fluids containing lubricating properties, such as fuel, oil and lube oil, up to temperatures of 300°C. This type of pump has the ability to remain efficient despite handling changeable flow rates and pressures.
Dosing and metering pumps are used to distribute a very particular amount of substance or fluid at controlled intervals. These are often used for applying precise amounts of corrosive and flammable liquids in applications including PH corrections, boiler water treatment and desulphurisation.
