Unveiled during HUAWEI CONNECT 2024, Shanghai, these innovations aim to enhance the industry’s quality with intelligence, increase reserves and production, ensure safe operations, and achieve high-quality development.

Li Peng, Senior Vice President, President of ICT Sales & Service, Huawei, said in his opening speech, “For the past three years, we’ve been focused on finding the right technologies for different scenarios. Our priorities are helping customers reduce costs, boost operational efficiency, and enhance security.”

Li went on to describe how, together with global customers and partners, Huawei is driving innovation and intelligence in resource-focused industries like oil & gas and mining. “We need to make the most of this opportunity to integrate digital technology more tightly with oil and gas,” he continued. “We need to keep making breakthroughs in exploration, production, and transportation, and developing the right applications to drive the industry’s intelligent transformation forward.”

Application achievements of CNPC’s Seismic Interpretation Large Model

As oil and gas exploration ventures into deeper waters, deeper layers, and unconventional fields, the challenges of exploration are increasing while production costs remain high. Traditional seismic exploration and interpretation methods are inadequate for complex exploration. Gong Renbin, the Chief IT Expert of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development, CNPC, said that the development of oil and gas E&P technologies is presented with new opportunities as large models popularize. CNPC and Huawei jointly integrated neural network technology with geophysical technology and used vast seismic exploration data to train and create an AI large model with 5 billion parameters. It provides intelligent seismic interpretation functions such as structural interpretation, fracture-cave prediction, and rock identification. The seismic interpretation large model is specifically designed for the core services of oil and gas exploration and has shown promising results in interpreting seismic data in oil and gas fields. The use of large model technology revolutionizes the traditional service process and boosts work efficiency by 9 to 12 times. This is expected to drive the shift towards a more modern seismic interpretation approach.

Intelligence facilitates oil and gas field reconstruction

Intelligent oilfield reconstruction has always been a focus of the industry. Mr. Ahmed Al Mandhari, Technology Infrastructure Architect at Petroleum Development Oman, highlighted that the organization is focused on condition-based maintenance predictions through the application of AI models. This approach aims to minimize failure rates and deferments while centralizing remote operations and automating oilfield production. Additionally, with real-time well optimization and the successful implementation of digital solutions, the annual production value is expected to increase by 1 to 2%. He emphasized that leveraging digital technologies will transform PDO’s operations.

In the context of upgrades and transformation across the oil and gas sector, digital and intelligent technologies have demonstrated a broad spectrum of potential applications. Huawei will continue to explore oil and gas service scenarios and work with customers and partners to create a mutually beneficial industry ecosystem. Together, they will build new ICT infrastructure and amplify oil and gas intelligence.
