The latest report from GlobalData, ‘H1 2017 Production and Capital Expenditure Outlook for Key Planned and Announced Upstream Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa – Nigeria to Host Most Planned and Announced Project Starts’, indicates that a total of 68 key crude oil and natural gas projects are expected to start operations in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2025. Of these, 23 are planned projects and 45 are announced projects.
The key projects in Sub-Saharan Africa are expected to contribute about 1,950 thousand barrels of oil per day (mbd) to global crude production and about 11.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) to global gas production, in 2025.
Among countries in Sub-Saharan Africa region, Nigeria, Angola and Mozambique lead both in terms of highest number of planned as well as early stage projects.
Among operators in terms of highest operatorship, Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd and Eni East Africa SpA, lead with three projects each followed by Total S.A. with two projects respectively.

According to GlobalData’s upstream research, a proposed capex of $56.3bn is expected to be spent between 2017 and 2025 to bring planned projects online in Sub-Saharan Africa, with $129.4bn expected to be spent on announced projects.
Among countries, Nigeria is expected to be the key capex spender on planned as well as announced projects in the Sub- Saharan Africa region with $56.8bn, followed by Mozambique, and Angola with a proposed capex of $55.8bn and $24.8bn respectively.
Among companies, Eni S.p.A., Royal Dutch Shell plc and Exxon Mobil Corporation will be the key capex spenders in the region with a proposed capex of $24.5bn, $19.7bn and $11.9bn.
