Wood, an energy industry-focused consulting and engineering company, has secured a significant contract to support BP's new subsea tieback in the UK North Sea.

Under the two-year contract, Wood will undertake top-side modification work at bp's ETAP central processing facility, aimed at connection to the Murlach field.

Wood's operations division will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services to repurpose the existing equipment at ETAP to facilitate the integration with bp’s Murlach dual well subsea tieback project.

Wood's teams based in Aberdeen, UK, will execute the Murlach project.

Wood operations executive president Steve Nicol said: “Working with bp for over 30 years, this contract builds on our global relationship, and we are proud to support this important project on one of their critical North Sea assets.

“Wood will deliver this under our multi-region engineering services contract, with our teams supporting efficient and safe delivery of asset repair, modifications and enhancements on ETAP to enable production from Murlach.”

Located within UKCS Block 22/24h in the central North Sea, the Murlach oil field is scheduled to commence production in 2025.

The field development plan involves the drilling of two production wells tied back to a new manifold, gas lift flowline installation from the existing ETAP platform to the new Murlach manifold and tie-ins to the repurposed Heron A production flowline, among others.

Recently, Wood has concluded brownfield work on bp's Seagull field, another subsea tieback to ETAP.

Last year, Wood signed an agreement worth $330m (£263.28m) with UK oil and gas producer Harbour Energy related to the UK North Sea operations.

As part of the agreement, Wood was required to provide engineering, procurement and construction as well as operations and maintenance services for Harbour’s offshore assets including the J-Area, Greater Britannia Area, Solan and Armada, Everest, Lomond and Erskine hubs.

Ammonia and Methanol in Energy Transition

Ammonia and methanol are key industrial chemicals with strong demand in the agriculture, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The demand for these chemicals is expected to rise in the coming years due to their potential applications in energy transition. Low-carbon ammonia is garnering the most attention from oil and gas industry players with nearly 300 plants in development globally.
