Trillion Energy International (Trillion) has completed 3D seismic reprocessing for the South Akcakoca Sub-Basin (SASB) gas field in the Black Sea offshore Turkey.

The company is interpreting the results and linking those into the existing drilled wells.

Since the 2004 seismic data were first processed, significant advancements in seismic technology have allowed for improved data imaging for faults, reservoir layers and reservoir characterisation, the company said.

Trillion's new PSDM seismic volumes and velocity model has revealed much clearer fault cuts, continuous reflectors and amplitude preservation, as well as improved imaging of subsurface geology and enhanced results of attributes, inversion and amplitude versus offset (AVO).

It also uncovered higher-quality data allowing for clear visibility of both previously and newly discovered gas channels; validation of the hydrocarbons presence using different AVO attributes; and detection of sweet spots for new gas prospects.

Trillion CEO Arthur Halleran said: "In the dynamic landscape of energy exploration, our reprocessed seismic data has unveiled a promising chapter for the SASB gas field. The revelation of extensive channel sands, particularly in the D and De-E zones, surpasses our earlier understanding of the field.

“This transformative breakthrough marks a clearer and more expansive vision of our gas prospects. The excitement is palpable as we witness the emergence of previously unseen gas-charged sand channels throughout, setting the stage for a future defined by enhanced exploration success."

Earlier this year, Trillion made a gas discovery at the SASB gas field following the drilling of the West Akcakoca 1 well.

The well represents the fourth well in the company’s multi-well programme at the SASB field.
