Survey: how will the UK general election affect offshore oil and gas?

As the UK heads to polls, we're asking for your views on the future of the UK's offshore production.

Ed Pearcey June 25 2024

The UK will hold its general election on 4 July 2024. Offshore oil and gas has become a major point of disagreement in the campaigns of the three main parties.

The incumbent Conservatives would allow annual licencing rounds for oil and gas production from the North Sea, while the Labour Party has opted for a managed decline, and not allowing any new licences to explore new oil and gas fields.

The Liberal Democrat, the smallest of the three main parties, are going a little further by promising to end fossil fuel subsides and maintaining the fracking ban.

This article will survey the industry's take on the implications of the election on the UK’s oil and gas industry.

It will gather opinions on key priorities for the next government.
