Subsea7 has secured a "sizeable contract" from Shell for the decommissioning work related to the Fluminense floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.
Under the contract, Subsea7 will be responsible for the decommissioning of subsea infrastructure associated with the FPSO in the Bijupirá and Salema fields.
The scope of the contract includes the disconnection, recovery and disposal of ten flexible risers, three umbilicals and nine mooring lines.
Subsea7 plans to commence the offshore work in December 2023.
Subsea7 Brazil vice-president Yann Cottart said: “Twenty years ago, Subsea7 installed the flexibles and umbilicals for Shell’s Bijupirá and Salema fields and, two decades later, we are proud to be one of Shell’s chosen contractors to take part in the completion of this field’s life cycle.”
Last year, Shell selected Helix Energy for plug and abandonment services on subsea wells in the Bijupira and Salema fields.
In 2016, Shell extended its contract with MODEC for the operations and maintenance of the FPSO Fluminense. The contract was effective from August 2016 to December 2020.
The FPSO has been operating in the Bijupirá & Salema oil fields since August 2016.
Earlier this year, Subsea 7 and its consortium partners received a contract from Turkish Petroleum for the second phase of development of the Sakarya field in the western Black Sea, offshore Turkey.
The consortium is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of subsurface solutions including subsea production systems, as well as subsea umbilicals and flowlines.
Subsea7’s contractual scope includes the EPCI of around 37km of infield flowlines, 47km of control umbilicals and associated subsea equipment at a water depth of 2,000m.
