Shearwater Geoservices has secured a contract to conduct an ocean-bottom node (OBN) survey in Angola for French energy giant TotalEnergies.

The deep-water survey is set to commence in January 2025 and will span approximately two and a half months.

The survey will be carried out in Block 32 in the Louro and Mostarda fields, where Shearwater previously completed a 4D streamer survey for TotalEnergies.

Shearwater will deploy the SW Tasman, a seismic node-laying vessel equipped with dual remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) that was converted in 2023, and the SW Gallien, which will serve as the source vessel.

Shearwater's compact high-endurance Pearl node will be utilised for the survey. The Pearl node is known for its performance and has been in continuous operation since its introduction last year.

Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili said: “We are very satisfied with the performance of our SW Tasman/Pearl OBN platform, which has been in continuous operation since its introduction last year. We are pleased to see one more key client use this unique platform to introduce deep-water OBN to new areas of their operations.”

The Louro and Mostarda fields are integral to the Kaombo utra-deepwater project, which began production in July 2018. The fields are serviced by two floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels, Kaombo Norte and Kaombo Sul.

This contract follows another significant agreement secured by Shearwater GeoServices in March for a seismic survey related to the Morecambe Bay carbon capture and storage project in the UK.
