Petronas, the Malaysian national oil company, has awarded a contract to ABL for rig inspection services across its offshore assets in Indonesia.

The one-year contract, which includes an optional one-year extension, will see ABL provide a range of services including rig assurance, technical risk assessments, equipment-focused inspections, drilling readiness peer reviews and client representation.

ABL, part of the ABL Group listed in Norway, is an independent consultancy group that offers various solutions to the energy sector.

Its Indonesian team based in Jakarta will oversee the project, supported by their new office in Batam.

ABL Indonesia country manager Deddy Setiyatno said: “Our rig inspection experts have extensive industry experience and in-depth knowledge across all types of rigs.

“We have a well-developed set-up that is tailored to make the rig inspection process as efficient, consistent and transparent as possible while also de-risking the impact of rig operations on the local marine environments. We look forward to supporting Petronas offshore Indonesia.”

The contract follows Petronas' recent agreement with Vestigo Petroleum, through Malaysia Petroleum Management, for a production sharing contract in the NBE Cluster off the coast of Sabah.

This predominantly gas discovery cluster is comparable with the mature Samarang field, known for its production capabilities.

In May this year, Petronas Suriname E&P, a subsidiary of the company, made a hydrocarbon discovery at the Fusaea-1 well within Suriname's offshore block 52.

Block 52, covering an area of 4,749km², is part of the Suriname-Guyana basin and is jointly operated by Petronas and ExxonMobil, each holding a 50% interest.
