Perenco Colombia has announced the successful drilling of three new development wells in the Paravare and Chaparrito fields, leading to a substantial oil discovery.
The geoscience team's detailed seismic data analysis identified new channels rich in oil reserves, marking a significant advancement in the company's production capabilities.
In the Paravare field, where two wells were already operational, the drilling of a third well, PRV-03, aimed to boost production.
With the installation of an electro submersible centrifugal pump, PRV-03 is now producing 500 barrels of oil per day (bopd), contributing to the field's optimisation efforts.
The Chaparrito field has also seen remarkable success with the drilling of wells CHP-03, CHP-04 and CHP-05, yielding production rates of 2,300bopd, 3,380bopd and 550bopd, respectively.
The successful drilling campaign has covered the entire fairway, with the Chaparrito field now accounting for around 40% of Perenco Colombia's total production.
Perenco Colombia's recent drilling results have exceeded expectations, prompting further reprocessing of seismic data to explore the potential for new channels.
The drilling campaign, conducted during Colombia's dry season, was a significant achievement, made in collaboration with local communities.
Perenco Colombia general manager Gaël Piardet said: “These discoveries are the result of the hard work and expertise of our teams and endorse our investment strategy in Colombia. Our goal is to replicate this success by continuing with reprocessing seismic data from other areas and drilling two development wells and one exploration well per year over the coming years.
“The Perenco Group implements rigorous environmental protection measures and initiatives to support regional economic development. As such, Perenco Colombia is committed to working closely with the Colombian authorities and local communities to ensure a responsible and beneficial exploitation of the country’s resources.”
