Neptune Energy and its partners have made a new gas discovery at the Kyrre prospect in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, following drilling of the 35/6-4 A side-track well.
The UK-based company said the 35/6-4 A side-track has been drilled into the overlying Kyrre prospect. This resulted in a new gas discovery.
The well has estimated recoverable resources of 11–19 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe) of gas. This brings the total recoverable volume from both discoveries to approximately 27–52mboe.
Furthermore, the partners also confirmed the volumes for the Ofelia appraisal well 35/6-4 ST2, which has been drilled in the Agat formation.
As per the estimates, the Ofelia appraisal well holds recoverable volumes in the range of 16–33mboe. The well has been completed in the Agat formation.
The Kyrre and the Ofelia appraisal wells are located in the PL 929 licence, close to the Gjøa field.
The Deepsea Yantai semi-submersible rig, which is owned by CIMC and operated by Odfjell Drilling, has been used to drill the wells 35/6-4 ST2 & 35/6-4 A.
Neptune Energy Norway and the UK managing director Odin Estensen said: “Confirming the Ofelia volume as well as making another discovery nearby further strengthens our understanding of the Greater Gjøa Area, which is an important growth hub for the business in Norway. The dual discoveries allow for a potential fast-track, low-cost and low-carbon development.”
Neptune is considering the development of Ofelia Agat and Kyrre as tie-backs to the Gjøa platform.
The company is also planning a joint development with oil and gas discovery Gjøa Nord (Hamlet), which is estimated to have recoverable volumes between 8–24mboe.
Neptune Norway exploration & development director Steinar Meland said: “The reservoir quality in the Kyrre discovery is very good, which allows for high production rates. We are preparing for several other exciting exploration opportunities in the area, such as the Cerisa well early next year.”
Neptune operates the PL929 licence with 40% stake. Other partners include Pandion Energy (20%), Aker BP (10%), DNO Norge (10%) and Wintershall Dea (20%)
Earlier this year, Neptune started production from its Adorf Z17 gas well in the municipality of Georgsdorf, north-western Germany.
