US investment company Nebula Energy has acquired a majority stake in AG&P LNG, a company specialising in LNG terminals and downstream infrastructure, for $300m.

This move is aimed at fast-tracking the development of LNG terminals across emerging markets in South and South East Asia.

AG&P LNG, which has its operational headquarters in the UAE, will continue to function as an independent subsidiary under the Nebula Energy umbrella, maintaining key offices in the UAE, Singapore, India, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The acquisition of the stake has led to a reshuffle in AG&P LNG's leadership, with Nebula Energy chairman Peter Gibson taking on the role of chairman and Sam Abdalla stepping in as vice-chairman.

Karthik Sathyamoorthy will maintain his position as CEO of AG&P LNG.

Nebula Energy has expressed confidence in AG&P LNG's ability to accelerate the adoption of downstream LNG infrastructure and logistics networks.

The company's proprietary LNG technology and credentials are expected to bridge the gap between infrastructure, logistics and demand in high-growth markets.

AG&P LNG's portfolio includes six LNG terminals currently under development with a proposed combined capacity of 25mtpa across various international projects.

Notably, the company operates the Philippines' first LNG import and regasification terminal, the Philippines LNG Import Terminal, located in Batangas Bay.

Sathyamoorthy said: “The new equity will accelerate the deployment of the LNG infrastructure ecosystem for downstream markets through bridging the need for cost-effective LNG supply solutions, enabled by Nebula Energy, combined with our compelling techno-commercial solutions. With this partnership, AG&P LNG will singularly serve as the one-point integrated source for the rapid unlocking of near-term market demand.”

Gibson said: “This partnership comes at a time of a new cycle of LNG supply and growing demand for LNG in Asia markets where LNG is being increasingly recognised as the critical fuel to profoundly reduce carbon emissions. With AG&P LNG’s presence across high-growth geographies, we look forward to rapidly unlocking these demand-centres and facilitating reliable LNG supply sources to match the demand growth.”

Concurrently, Nebula Energy announced that it is forming Nebula Energy Shipping, a ship-owning company, to offer transportation services in order to meet the growing needs of the LNG industry.
