MET Croatia Energy Trade, a subsidiary of Swiss integrated energy company the MET Group, has confirmed its 100th liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment to a floating LNG terminal in Omišalj municipality on the island of Krk, Croatia.

Known as the BW Pavilion Aranthera, the LNG carrier arrived at the Krk FSRU several days ago.

The FSRU started operation in January 2021 and has an annual capacity of 2.9bcm. There is also an onshore section of the terminal.

Mario Matković, CEO, MET Croatia Energy Trade, said that in addition to this noticeable delivery, “we are pleased that we had the opportunity to bring in the initial ‘zero’ ship, planting a strong foundation for the future operations of the terminal”.

He added in a press statement that his company’s committtment “to remaining a key player in the Croatian energy sector is demonstrated by our lease of substantial regasification capacities at the Krk LNG Terminal until October 2032”.

MET Group delivered more than 30 LNG cargoes to Europe last year and has long-term regasification capacity bookings in Germany, Croatia and Spain.

In recent years, the company has also imported into eight countries including Belgium, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Spain and the UK.

In the press release, MET Group said it is keen to further diversify Croatia’s access to alternative energy sources.

The group also added that the significant lease at the Krk LNG Terminal not only secures Croatia’s energy resources but also helps central and eastern Europe to become an integral part of the global LNG market.
