McDermott, an engineering and construction solutions provider, has been awarded a significant EPRD contract by Santos for the decommissioning of the Harriet Alpha platform and associated infrastructure.

This project, located offshore Western Australia, is part of the HJV assets.

McDermott will deliver comprehensive EPRD services, which encompass engineering, procurement and the fabrication of specialised equipment.

The scope of the contract also involves the removal and transportation of the platform structure to an onshore facility for decommissioning and disposal.

Additionally, the contract covers the removal, transportation and disposal of a flare tower, exploration well and a subsea development system that consists of two subsea template wells.

The contract marks McDermott's largest decommissioning endeavour to date. It follows the successful completion of the Campbell decommissioning project for Santos in Australia.

McDermott Subsea and Floating Facilities senior vice-president Mahesh Swaminathan said: "This is our largest decommissioning project to date, reflecting our continued commitment to delivering bespoke solutions for the timely, safe and environmentally responsible removal of infrastructure at the end of its operational life cycle.

"McDermott's growing decommissioning portfolio in Australia also underscores the commitment we share to continue supporting circularity efforts in a lower-carbon economy.”

The project management and engineering will be carried out by McDermott's team based in Perth, Australia, with additional support from Batam, Indonesia, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

McDermott recently entered into an agreement to sell its CB&I storage business unit to a consortium led by Mason Capital Management.

The sale is set to generate $475m in pre-tax proceeds for McDermott, excluding transaction expenses. This decision follows a comprehensive marketing process where McDermott received multiple bids.

The company was also awarded an engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract by QatarEnergy LNG for the NFS offshore pipelines and cables project.

This contract expands on McDermott's ongoing collaboration with QatarEnergy, following previous work on the NFS pipelines front-end engineering design, the NFS jackets EPCI and the North Field Expansion Project topsides and pipelines.
