McDermott, a provider of engineering and construction solutions to the energy industry, has been awarded a FEED contract by Repsol Exploracion Mexico for the Polok and Chinwol field development project in the Gulf of Mexico.

Under this contract, McDermott will deliver comprehensive FEED services for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of SURF.

The engineering delivery for the project will be managed from McDermott's Houston office.

The Polok and Chinwol fields, discovered in 2020 by Repsol and its partners, represent Mexico's first deep-water oil finds, reported Brazil Energy Insight.

These fields are part of the Mexico Block 29 project in the Salina Basin, currently in its exploration phase.

Situated 88km off the coast of Tabasco in the southern Gulf of Mexico, the block spans an area of 3,254km².

Repsol operates Block 29 with a 46.67% stake, acquired from Thailand's PTTEP in September 2024.

The remaining stakes are held by PC Carigali Mexico (28.33%) and Harbour Energy (25%) via its acquisition of Wintershall Dea's assets.

McDermott's subsea and floating facilities senior vice-president Mahesh Swaminathan said: "Our extensive experience in subsea engineering and in-house EPCI capabilities uniquely position us to deliver innovative and efficient FEED solutions for Repsol's development of the Polok and Chinwol fields.

"We look forward to advancing this project with a strong focus on cost-effectiveness, safety, efficiency and quality delivery."

In November, McDermott was awarded an engineering, procurement, removal and disposal (EPRD) contract by Santos for the decommissioning of the Harriet Alpha platform and related infrastructure in Western Australia.

The project includes comprehensive EPRD services such as the engineering, procurement and fabrication of specialised equipment, as well as the removal and transportation of the platform structure to an onshore facility for decommissioning and disposal.

In October, McDermott secured an EPCI contract from QatarEnergy LNG for the North Field South (NFS) offshore pipelines and cables project.

The project is crucial to increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 142mtpa.

The contract encompasses the EPCI of nearly 250km of offshore and onshore gas pipelines.
