Shell Trinidad and Tobago has awarded McDermott an engineering, procurement, construction, installation (EPCI), hook-up and commissioning contract.

The contract is for the Manatee gas field development project 60 miles off the south-east coast of Trinidad and Tobago.

It follows the successful front-end engineering design, detailed engineering and long lead procurement services for the project's initial design and execution planning.

Under the contract, McDermott will be responsible for the design, procurement, fabrication, hook-up and commissioning of a platform and jacket.

Additionally, the company will provide design, installation and commissioning services for a 32in gas pipeline connecting the platform to a gas processing facility operated by Shell.

The contract also includes design, procurement, installation and testing services for a fibre-optic cable.

McDermott senior vice-president of subsea and floating facilities Mahesh Swaminathan said: “This award leverages our unique, integrated EPCI capabilities and legacy of engineering excellence and innovation to successfully deliver large offshore platforms and complex subsea infrastructure worldwide.

“The Manatee project builds on our track record of successful project execution for Shell and exemplifies our commitment to building energy infrastructure required to meet demand.”

Shell, as the operator with a 100% working interest under the sub-Block 6D production sharing contract, announced the FID for the Manatee gas project last month.

The company aims to bolster its Integrated Gas business through this development.

Discovered in 1983, the Loran-Manatee field has been evaluated with four wells. The Manatee section is located in Trinidad and Tobago's waters, while the Loran section is in Venezuelan waters.

The commencement of production at Manatee is targeted for 2027.

Once operational, the field is expected to reach a maximum production level of approximately 104,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, or 604 million standard cubic feet per day.
