Glenfarne Energy Transition's subsidiary, Texas LNG Brownsville, has appointed Kiewit as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for its upcoming liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal.
The four-million-tonnes-per-annum (mtpa) facility in the Port of Brownsville, Texas, will be developed under an LSTK contract.
It is poised to become one of the world's cleanest LNG export facilities, leveraging electric motor drives to minimise emissions.
Glenfarne CEO and founder and Texas LNG co-president Brendan Duval said: “Texas LNG received immense interest from world-class contractors that wanted to be involved in the project.
“Kiewit’s proposal, capability and partnership vision for Texas LNG, as well as their significant execution and implementation expertise on the US Gulf Coast, made a substantial impression on our project team. We look forward to working with them.”
Texas LNG aims to finalise the pre-FID engineering in collaboration with Kiewit, a move that is in line with its recent success in securing sufficient offtake agreements necessary for an FID.
This step is crucial for advancing the project towards construction and operation.
Kiewit Energy Group executive vice-president Eric Gutierrez said: “Kiewit is excited to partner with Glenfarne to deliver this crucial LNG project in the region.
“Our extensive experience delivering complex, integrated LNG EPC projects for our clients continues to be a differentiator for our company. We appreciate the opportunity to work with a client committed to developing important energy infrastructure opportunities in the US.”
Texas LNG recently finalised a 20-year tolling agreement with EQT, which covers liquefaction services for 2mtpa of LNG, reinforcing the preliminary heads of agreement signed earlier this year.
The company has also secured offtake agreements for most of the LNG facility’s capacity, including a deal with a high-credit market participant for 500,000 tonnes per annum.
