Gate Energy has secured a commissioning contract for Woodside’s Trion FPU project in Mexico.

The contract has been awarded by HHI, which is serving as construction contractor for the 44,000-tonne offshore platform.

Under the contract, Gate will undertake pre-commissioning and commissioning planning and execution of the offshore platform at HHI's fabrication yard in Ulsan, South Korea.

Gate Energy CEO Lee Jordan said: "We are excited to build on our prior working relationship with HHI and our footprints in South Korea, Mexico and the US to support delivery of the first oil production facility for Mexico's deepwater acreage in the Gulf of Mexico. This will represent a substantial milestone for Woodside and is a key step in unlocking the full potential of the basin for the Mexican people."

With the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of crude oil and 4.1 million cubic metres of natural gas per day, the FPU is due to be constructed in South Korea. It is scheduled to start production in 2028.

The FPU will be deployed at an oilfield 180km off the east coast of Mexico.

Gate Energy commissioning president Mark Myhre said: "Receiving the commissioning contract for the Woodside Trion FPU project is a remarkable milestone for Gate Energy. This marks the third consecutive HHI-built FPU project awarded to us, demonstrating the trust and confidence that our valued clients place in our capabilities."

ESG 2.0 will be less forgiving of poor ESG performers

While ESG 1.0 was driven by voluntary corporate action, ESG 2.0 is being driven by a new wave of government policies. A host of new environmental laws are in the pipeline, relating to mandatory reporting, carbon pricing, and carbon import tariffs, as well as more state support and investment in clean energy technologies. Companies unprepared for ESG 2.0 face higher costs and lost sales.

Ammonia and Methanol in Energy Transition

Ammonia and methanol are key industrial chemicals with strong demand in the agriculture, manufacturing, and construction sectors. The demand for these chemicals is expected to rise in the coming years due to their potential applications in energy transition. Low-carbon ammonia is garnering the most attention from oil and gas industry players with nearly 300 plants in development globally.
