Energy services provider Expro Group has secured a five-year well intervention and integrity contract worth $30m from TotalEnergies for the Tilenga project in Uganda.

The company said it has designed four well intervention units to deliver a single operational solution for slickline and braided line in a cased hole environment across the well’s life.

The solution is expected to deliver improved efficiency while reducing equipment footprint and CO₂ emissions.

Expro Europe and sub-Saharan Africa regional vice-president Iain Farley said: “We are delighted to further develop our relationship with TotalEnergies through work on this key project, which reinforces Expro’s ability to partner in frontier field developments in support of energy security.

“Expro’s solution was designed and engineered with the specific needs of this project in mind, taking into account the environmental sensitivities of the location and the need to support the project’s overall environmental and social objectives.”

Work under the contract is scheduled to start in Q2 2023. Expro will initially support drilling activity followed by production optimisation, integrity and well workover support.

Located in the Buliisa and Nwoya districts in Lake Albert, the multi-well Tilenga project involves the development of six fields and the drilling of around 400 wells from 31 locations.

TotalEnergies operates the project with a 56.6% stake. Other partners include China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Uganda National Oil Company.
