MAN Energy Solutions has been selected by Equinor to provide compressor bundles for the Troll A platform, one of three platforms operating in the Troll oil and gas field offshore Norway.
Under the contract, MAN Energy will provide three compressor bundles and an additional two spare units to replace the ones from another OEM.
MAN Energy will implement these bundles within the existing outer casings on the Troll A platform.
The scope of the contract includes supply of the centrifugal rotor, inner casing with internals, bearings and dry gas seals for installation in the existing third-party casings.
The company will also be responsible for full engineering and project management services during project execution as well as on-site services for the bundle exchange and commissioning on the Troll A platform.
MAN Energy plans to complete initial compressor bundle delivery in Q2 2025.
MAN Energy Solutions Product Center Zurich head Oliver Tromm said: “Thanks to the reliability and robustness of our RB compressor technology, we are delivering a cutting-edge, re-bundling concept using proven components.
“Through our bundle retrofits, we can also enhance compressor performance for the long term. This project is a result of our long-standing cooperation with Equinor where we have demonstrated the capabilities of our energy-efficient, reliable and flexible technology solutions in numerous projects, such as the subsea compressor systems operating in the Åsgard field since 2015.”
A thorough overhaul of the aerodynamic flow route within the current casing is necessary because of changes in operational conditions, stated MAN Energy.
Located 65km off Kollsnes in Norway, the Troll field comprises the main Troll East and Troll West structures in blocks 31/2, 31/3, 31/5 and 31/6 in the North Sea.
