CNOOC has announced the commencement of production from the Bozhong 19-2 oilfield development project.

The oilfield is situated in the central area of Bohai Bay at an average water depth of around 20m.

It is expected to reach a peak production of approximately 18,800bpd of crude oil by 2025.

The oil extracted from this field is characterised as heavy crude.

The Bozhong 19-2 oilfield development project includes a new central processing platform and four unmanned wellhead platforms.

CNOOC plans to commission a total of 59 development wells, comprising 34 production wells and 25 water-injection wells, to optimise the recovery of resources.

As the sole stakeholder and operator, CNOOC holds a 100% interest in the project.

In a statement, CNOOC said: “Smart engineering and standardised construction has remarkably reduced the project's construction cycle.

“It has strongly promoted the efficient development of offshore oil and gas resources and laid a solid foundation for the production growth in the Bohai oilfields, the largest crude oil production base in China.”

This development follows the recent commencement of production from the Shenhai-1 Phase II natural gas development project by CNOOC.

Located in the northern South China Sea's Qiongdongnan Basin, the Shenhai-1 Phase II project operates at an average water depth of around 900m.

Earlier in September, CNOOC also commenced production at the Liuhua 11-1/4-1 oilfield secondary development project.

This project encompasses the Liuhua 11-1 and Liuhua 4-1 oilfields, located in an area with an average water depth of approximately 305m in the eastern South China Sea.

The production infrastructure for the Liuhua oilfield secondary development includes the new deep-water jacket platform, Haiji-2, and the cylindrical floating production storage and offloading unit, Haikui-1
