China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has started production from the Phase I of the Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field in the Bohai Sea offshore China.

Located in central Bohai Sea, with an average water depth of about 20 metres (m), the project is anticipated to reach peak production capacity of about 37,000boepd in 2024.

The main production facilities comprise one central processing platform, three unmanned wellhead platforms and one gas process terminal.

CNOOC is planning to commission 65 development wells at the field. These include 20 gas injection wells, 42 production wells, and three water source wells.

CNOOC CEO and president Zhou Xinhuai said: "The project is the first condensate gas field with a proved in-place volume of over 200 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas that has been put into operation in Bohai Bay, relying on the Bozhong-Kenli Oilfields Onshore Power Project.

“The gas field will supply stable clean energy to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the Bohai Rim region, and contribute to the low-carbon and high-quality development of the Company."

CNOOC owns 100% operatorship stake in the Bozhong 19-6 project.

In October 2023, CNOOC made a deep coalbed methane (CBM) field discovery in Yulin, Shaanxi Province at the eastern edge of Ordos Basin.

The Shenfu CBM field is estimated to hold proven geological reserves of more than 100bcm of gas.

The discovery well, named SM2-33-CH1, encountered 16.5m of coal seam gas at about 2,011m depth.
