Energy technology company Baker Hughes has secured a major contract from Venture Global LNG to supply liquified natural gas (LNG) equipment.
The contract forms part of a master equipment supply deal between Venture Global LNG and Baker Hughes for more than 100 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG production capacity.
Specifically, Baker Hughes will supply a modularised LNG system and power island to Venture Global LNG.
The technology vendor said the collaboration builds on earlier contracts to deliver complete LNG technology solutions for the Louisiana LNG projects at Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines.
Last month, Venture Global LNG announced plans to increase production from 70mtpa to more than 100mtpa of nameplate LNG export capacity.
To support the increased production, Venture Global LNG and Baker Hughes signed an expanded master equipment supply deal for the supply of additional liquefaction train systems and power island systems.
Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said: “We are excited to add another milestone in our successful collaboration with Baker Hughes as a strategic LNG technology supplier, building on the expansion of our agreement.
“To enable a successful transition to more secure and sustainable economies, it is critical that we continue to further our mission of delivering low-cost LNG at a larger scale.”
Baker Hughes chairman and CEO Lorenzo Simonelli said: “This further expansion of our collaboration with Venture Global reaffirms that Baker Hughes technologies are advancing the efficient use of natural gas, and we are honoured to continue to support their projects.
“The continuing demand for LNG emphasises the pivotal role that natural gas will play in the energy transition, helping to secure supply and to reach net-zero emissions.”
The news comes as Venture Global LNG faces multiple arbitration cases over non-fulfilment of LNG supply contracts.
Most recently, Repsol, a Spanish energy company, launched arbitration proceedings against the US-based LNG company.
Shell, BP and Edison are among the other companies that have taken similar action against Venture Global LNG.
