US-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) equipment maker Air Products has received a contract to provide its AP-X LNG Process technology and equipment for Qatargas’ North Field South project in Ras Laffan, Qatar.
The company will provide two new LNG process trains, complementing the four trains currently under construction for the North Field East LNG project.
The implementation of AP-X liquefaction technology in the mega LNG trains is expected to facilitate a substantial boost in LNG production.
The equipment comprises main cryogenic heat exchangers (MCHEs), subcooling heat exchangers (SCHEs), Rotoflow turbomachinery companders and nitrogen economiser cold boxes.
Air Products chief operating officer Dr Samir J Serhan said: "Once again, we are very pleased to have our LNG technology selected for the newest liquefaction expansion project in Qatar's North Field. Air Products' proven AP-X process technology enables significantly higher LNG production while having flexible operation over a wide range of production capacities.
“The unrivalled performance, reliability and efficiency of our equipment, coupled with responsive technical service and support, enable customers to optimise a facility's overall performance with safe and sustainable solutions."
The company plans to undertake all engineering and design work at its global corporate headquarters office in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
The MCHEs and SCHEs will be manufactured at Air Products’ LNG equipment manufacturing facility on the west coast of Florida.
Air Products delivered key equipment and technology for all of Qatar’s existing LNG trains operating in Ras Laffan.
