Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's (ADNOC) offshore Satah Al Razboot (SARB) field has seen a 25% increase in production capacity while using AI technology.

ADNOC’s field now produces a total of 140,000 barrels per day (bpd) and is remotely operated from Zirku island at a distance of 20km, revealed the company in a statement on Tuesday.

The control centre covers remote monitoring, smart well operations and production management technologies for real-time decision making.

The DrillRep and OptiDrill drills process data from rigs and wells at the field to support drilling processes.

These solutions have been developed by smart technology company AIQ, a joint venture established in 2020 between ADNOC and Emirati AI company G42, currently valued at more than $1.4bn (Dh5.14bn).

ADNOC upstream executive director Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy said: “AI and digitalisation are at the heart of ADNOC’s smart growth strategy to help responsibly meet the world’s growing energy demand.”

ADNOC intends to deploy additional AI technology as part of a multi-year programme to further optimise its operations across Abu Dhabi.

In mid-July, ADNOC deployed an autonomous AI well-control solution called RoboWell at its NASR field.

The state-owned company is aiming to grow its oil production capacity to 5mbbl/d by 2027 and achieve near-zero methane emissions by 2030.

According to Offshore Technology’s parent company, GlobalData, AI technology is transforming the oil and gas sector’s productivity in exploration, production, refining and logistics.

Earlier this month, ADNOC and global technology group e& revealed they were developing what they claim will be the energy industry’s “largest private 5G wireless network”, spanning 11,000km².

In a joint statement, the companies said the network will help deliver high bandwidth across ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations.

The network will help ADNOC integrate its AI solutions at remote facilities and reduce costs through automation.
