Wood, an energy industry-focused consulting and engineering services provider, has secured a new decarbonisation contract from TotalEnergies to support flare gas recovery efforts in the UK North Sea.
This 23-month contract is part of the Elgin-Franklin Flare Gas Recovery System Project.
It follows Wood’s successful completion of a field study and front-end engineering design.
The contract encompasses coordination of operations, procurement and design for the Elgin asset.
The Elgin-Franklin field, known for its high-pressure, high-temperature gas reservoirs, lies in the central North Sea and is operated by TotalEnergies.
Other stakeholders with non-operated interests include ENI, Harbour Energy, Ithaca Energy, NEO Energy and ONE-Dyas.
The project will be led by Wood’s team based in Aberdeen and is expected to generate 40 new positions, both onshore and offshore.
This initiative is a key component of TotalEnergies’ carbon footprint reduction road map.
It aims to redirect gas that would have been flared into a new compressor system offshore, allowing it to be treated and reused.
Wood senior vice-president of UK operations Martin Simmonite said: “We are delighted to work with TotalEnergies, supporting the delivery of this decarbonisation initiative and providing end-to-end project life cycle solutions.
“Wood is committed to delivering sustainable solutions that contribute to a low-carbon future and our teams are well positioned to support TotalEnergies as they execute their ambitious action plan to reduce emissions across their operations.”
Last month, Wood’s Australian division was commissioned to conduct a concept study for the development of the Greater Sunrise gas and condensate fields, operated by Woodside Energy.
Located approximately 450km north-west of Darwin and 150km south of Timor-Leste, the area includes the Sunrise and Troubadour gas and condensate fields.
The study will assess the development, processing and marketing of gas, with options to deliver gas to Timor-Leste for processing and liquefied natural gas sales, or, alternatively, to Australia.
