US-based oilfield services company Weatherford International has signed a $220m contract to provide directional drilling services to Abu Dhabi Company for Offshore Petroleum Operations (Adnoc Offshore).
Under the three-year contract, Weatherford will provide the services for increasing production at Adnoc Offshore in the UAE. Weatherford will use its Magnus rotary steerable system in both re-entry wells and new wells to help increase offshore production, driving greater benefits for Adnoc Offshore.
Weatherford Arabian Sea Geozone vice-president Tony Azizi said: “Magnus is demonstrating consistent reliability, a critical element of this contract award.
“Operations in some of the world’s most challenging geophysical environments are proving Magnus’ ability to deliver very accurate wellbore placement and wellbore quality, in conditions requiring vertical, lateral or curved directional drilling.
“Magnus’ independently controllable and addressable steering pads, in tandem with its unique modular design, allow for increased reliability, improved utilisation, efficient turn-around time of idle assets and local repair, all of which will drive greater benefits for Adnoc Offshore.”
Using a push-the-bit design, which can be used in any drilling scenario, the rotary steerable system addresses operators’ need for speed without compromising on directional control. Magnus features unique design elements including a true inclination hold and increases reservoir exposure, as well as monetises the value of the well.
